Chicago Dog Park Rules & Permits
These rules help keep Chicago dog parks safe, clean, and enjoyable for everyone.
Rules & Regulations
- Owners are responsible for their dogs and any injuries caused.
- Owners must supervise their dogs at all times.
- Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting.
- Gates must remain closed.
- Owners must clean up after their dogs.
- Violations may result in fines up to $500.
- Aggressive dogs are not allowed.
- Dogs must be healthy, vaccinated, and licensed.
- Rabies vaccination is required.
- No food allowed inside dog park areas.
- Maximum of 3 dogs per person.
- Children under 12 must be supervised.
- Puppies under 4 months and dogs in heat are not allowed.
Permits & Tags
All dogs must have a Dog Friendly Area (DFA) permit issued through a participating veterinarian.
Cost: $10 per dog
Valid: January 1 – December 31
Requirements
- Proof of rabies vaccination or Chicago dog license
- Completed DFA permit application
- Veterinary verification of vaccinations and parasite testing

Permits are available through participating veterinarian offices across Chicago.
